AGM - May 2011Present: John Reid, Peter Newcomb, NWFolland, Paul Massey, Welcome- JR opened the meeting at 8.10 pm Apologies- Received from Stephen Chung & Joe Dilworth Minutes AGM 2010- Minutes accepted – no points of order Matters Arising- No matters arising Chairman’s Report- JR said he was sorry to be leaving the Legion but clearly we needed a new venue. There was a need to recruit new members and he would be pursuing this with NWF. He thanked NWF for his work and the captains for their all their efforts during the season. Secretary’s Report-- NWF gave a brief review of situation regarding new venue which he had been heavily involved in. Requested any members with e-mail addresses to let him have them for contact and communication purposes. Treasurer’s Report-PN outlined finances- positive and in spite of not collecting any funds last year -quite healthy. In view of prospective move to Wardens PN would postpone any discussion about this years fees until Club had voted on venue change. Captain’s Reports: MCA -MH said they had had a good season in the Merseyside and came very close in the last match to promotion needing only a ½ point to secure that position. MH thanked all team members for their support and mentioned RP as having an outstanding season as well as PM. 500 – JR thanked all members who played in the 500 – again a good season with only one board defaulted. Warrington – NWF reported an excellent season in the Warrington achieving 1st place in the fourth division –all agreed we would take promotion if on offer. With the League organisation in the melting pot at the moment it was not clear what the position would be until their AGM. See League Table Election of Officers : Chairman- JR agreed to stand again and was elected JR agreed to stand for another year WDCL- NWF agreed to take the position for a further year New Venue -discussion and Vote- JR outlined arguments for and against venue change as outlined in the Skelmersdale Chess Club new Venue document-(SCCV). Went through why Legion venue was now unsuitable for match play and how we looked at a number of venues in the area and attempted through discussion to make a sensible choice. Positive response and excellent venue at Wardens Club pushed us towards this rather than any other. JR outlined financial implications in the move and how they may be met. After an extended discussion four votes were taken:- Player of the Year- Paul Massey came first overall with 74% and Bob second with 72.7% AOB- PM questioned the car fee of £4.00 per passenger and proposed that for some shorter journeys a lower contribution was more appropriate. After extended discussion this was voted down and the £4.00 contribution agreed for a further year. MH’s proposal for an increase to £5.00 was also voted down. JR suggested we advertise the move to the club’s new venue with a view to increasing club membership. NWF agreed to take this up and contact the Champion and produce some advertising posters for distribution. There being no further business the meeting closed at 22.00. |
